I’m passionate about physics because it teaches me to understand what most can’t and to expand my thinking.

I’ve always been a math and science person. An eleventh grade advanced physics class hooked me. I started college with a mechanical engineering major. I added a physics major after seeing opportunities in the field. I don’t know my exact path yet, but the rigor and problem-solving it builds will fuel my goal to be a world-changing engineer.
I’m aim is to go into industry. My BNL internship opened my eyes to real-world physics and even sparked interest in a future career at a national lab.
As part of the Nuclear Science in Texas to Enhance and Advance Mentees (NuSTEAM) program, I’m doing research on the luminosity detector on the electron-proton/ion collider at the Brookhaven National Lab. The luminosity detector is a mini detector inside a larger detector at BNL. I’m also a lab assistant in my physics department and a barber.
The scholarship has allowed me to give 100% effort towards being involved at my university and focused on my studies without having to worry too much about how I’m going to cover bills and daily expenses.
