Sym Thorpe
I’m most passionate about understanding how simple physical laws scale up to complex behavior.

I chose this major because it balances my love for problem solving with my fascination for real-world applications. The more I learned, the more I realized that physics provides the tools to explain patterns I noticed in everyday life. I love turning abstract equations into concrete predictions and experiments.
I plan to use my applied physics and mechanical engineering degree (with a math minor) to design and simulate real-world systems, launch a firm that trains interns with hands-on projects, and build practical, sustainable engineering solutions.
Currently, I’m advancing in mechanical engineering, mastering design and simulation. Recently, I led an Engineering Graphics project using p5.js, guiding my team to model motion and forces, gaining both technical skill and leadership experience.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus on my applied physics studies. It would also empower me to pursue projects, internships, and research that build the skills I need to launch my future engineering firm.
