Chris Carr
Chris Carr
Chris Carr is a theoretical astrophysicist whose work combines analytical and numerical methods to study the formation and evolution of galaxies. He earned his Ph.D. in astronomy from Columbia University and a B.A. in astronomy and physics from Case Western Reserve University. In Fall 2025, Chris began a dual appointment at Princeton University, where he holds a Future Faculty Fellowship in the Physical Sciences and a Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.
Beyond research, Chris is deeply committed to promoting diversity in science, both in communication and among its practitioners. He has created popular science content for radio and YouTube, hosted and produced live shows for Astronomy On Tap, and worked side by side with artists to translate astrophysical concepts to the stage as part of the Microcosms program at the American Museum of Natural History. He has also consistently mentored students from underrepresented backgrounds in physics and astronomy, previously serving as a Graduate Fellow for the Simons-NSBP Scholars Program and on the planning committee for the Inaugural TEAM-UP Conference. At Princeton, Chris continues this work as an instructor for the Prison Teaching Initiative Coding Foundations of Research program, teaching introductory astronomy and coding fundamentals to formerly incarcerated students.
