My research interests lie in using computational methods to solve problems in nuclear physics. I find the interdisciplinary nature of physics compelling, combining my interests in science and technology with real-world applications.
One of my proudest accomplishments has been involvement in a computational stellarator design project this past summer. In this project, I utilized advanced optimization algorithms to improve the design of a stellarator’s complex 3D magnetic field configuration to find an optimized shape that could confine the plasma efficiently for longer periods of time. Seeing how physics, mathematics, and computation complement each other in scientific discovery reaffirmed my passion for building a career as a physicist.
This scholarship will provide crucial financial support as I look ahead to graduate studies and allow me to focus more time on my research projects and senior thesis, rather than balancing work hours. After graduate school, I hope to help increase access and diversity in physics education and research. This scholarship represents an investment in a more diverse future STEM workforce and inspires me daily to realize my potential and open doors for others.
